Privacy Policy

Faniverz ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Faniverz mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

You can browse most of the Service without an account. When you sign in or interact with the Service, we may collect:

• Name and email address (provided by Google or Apple when you sign in — see Section 1.3)
• Profile details you choose to add — display name, username, profile photo, an optional phone number, location text, and a short bio
• Watchlist entries, follows, ratings, reviews, and comments you create
• Preferences, genres, and language settings you configure
• Communications you send to us (e.g. support requests)

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you access the Service, we automatically collect certain technical information, including:

• Your device's advertising identifier, used to show and measure ads (see Section 4)
• Device type, operating system, and app version
• An approximate region derived from your device's language and region settings, used to localize content and release information — we do not collect GPS or precise location
• A push notification token and your time zone, if you turn on notifications, so we can deliver them

1.3 Information from Third Parties

If you choose to sign in using a third-party service (such as Google or Apple), we receive basic profile information (name, email, profile photo) from that provider in accordance with your permissions. We do not receive your passwords for these services.

1.4 Install Routing (Deferred Deep Linking)

When you tap a Faniverz share link on the web before the app is installed, we route you to the shared item on your first app launch rather than to a generic home screen. To match your new install to the link you tapped, we record, at the moment you tap the store button:

• A one-way salted hash of your IP address — never your raw IP address, and it cannot be reversed back to it
• Coarse signals — your platform (iOS or Android) and your language setting
• The path of the shared item you tapped (for example, a specific movie or actor)

This record is short-lived: it is retained for roughly two hours and then automatically deleted. On your first launch the app reports the same coarse signals to find the match, and on Android it also reads the Google Play Install Referrer that the Play Store passes through from your tap. If there is no confident match, you simply land on the home screen. This routing is between our own website and our own app; it is not used to track you across other companies' apps or sites.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account and personalize your experience
• Provide movie recommendations, watchlist features, and streaming availability data
• Route new installs to the content you tapped a share link for, on first launch (see Section 1.4)
• Improve, maintain, and develop new features of the Service
• Send you service communications (e.g. account or security notices) and push notifications you have enabled
• Show and measure ads that help keep the Service free (see Section 4)
• Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or security incidents
• Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations
• Analyze aggregated, de-identified usage to understand and improve the Service

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

• Service providers — third-party vendors who assist us in operating the Service (e.g. cloud hosting, content delivery, and push-notification delivery), bound by confidentiality obligations.
• Advertising partners — we use Google AdMob to display ads in the app. To serve and measure ads, your device's advertising identifier and limited technical data may be shared with Google and its advertising partners in accordance with Google's policies. You can control personalized ads through the in-app consent prompt and your device settings (see Section 4).
• Movie data partners — we query public and licensed databases (such as TMDB, IMDB-equivalent APIs, and streaming platform APIs) to provide content information. Queries may include search terms but not personally identifiable data.
• Legal authorities — where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
• Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the successor entity.

4. Advertising and Tracking Technologies

The Faniverz app is free and supported by ads served through Google AdMob. AdMob uses your device's advertising identifier and limited technical data to deliver and measure ads, and — where you consent — to show personalized ads. You can learn more in Google's advertising policy.

You control ad personalization through the consent prompt shown in the app and through your device privacy settings (for example, "Reset advertising ID" or "Delete advertising ID" on Android, and App Tracking Transparency on iOS). In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we request your consent through Google's certified consent management before serving personalized ads, and you can withdraw or change that choice at any time.

Our website uses minimal cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences and maintain sessions. You can control these through your browser settings; disabling certain cookies may limit functionality.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active, or as long as necessary to provide the Service and comply with legal obligations. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account Management in the app. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Install-routing records (see Section 1.4) are an exception to the account model: they are not linked to any account, are retained for only about two hours, and are then automatically and permanently deleted.

6. Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
• Request deletion of your personal information
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
• Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

9. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or streaming platforms. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies independently.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
